Privacy Policy for WebSum: AI Blog Summaries

Last updated: 10 October 2026 · Published by six9dev

What data we collect

WebSum only reads a page when you click its icon or press its shortcut, or on sites you have chosen to allow (all sites, or ones you pick). On allowed sites it recognises articles to show its Summarise button. That check runs entirely in your browser; nothing is sent until you ask for a summary.

Private apps are never read

WebSum never reads private apps, even if you open the panel and ask it to. That includes email (such as Gmail and Outlook), documents and files (such as Google Docs, Drive, Microsoft 365, Dropbox and Notion), chats (such as Slack, Teams, WhatsApp, Discord and direct messages on social networks), AI assistants (such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini), payment and password apps, cloud dashboards, and pages on private company networks. Nothing from these pages is read or sent anywhere.

How data is stored

How data is used

Only to write summaries, keep you signed in, apply your plan's daily allowance, and bill paid plans. A summary of an article is stored without any information about you and reused when someone else summarises the same article.

Third-party services

Data sharing

We don't sell your data, show ads, or use it for anything unrelated to summarising articles. Data is shared only with the service providers above, only so they can provide their part of WebSum.

Data retention and deletion

Summaries kept on your device are removed when you uninstall WebSum. When you uninstall, Chrome opens a short page on websum.dev asking why you left; WebSum sends nothing with it. Answering is optional. If you do, the reason you choose and anything you write are stored by Netlify, which hosts websum.dev, and are not linked to your account. Your account, usage history and subscription records are kept while your account exists. Email us to delete your account and everything linked to it.

Chrome Web Store and Google data policies

WebSum's use of information collected through the extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Information received from Google sign-in is used only to create and identify your WebSum account, and follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes to this policy

If our practices change we'll update this page and the date above before the change takes effect.
